Partner Thomas M. Melody is presenting tomorrow at the IPELRA’s Annual Training Conference on “Consolidation Considerations for Public Safety Services” along with Scott Coren, Assistant City Manager – City of Highwood.
The City of Highwood determined that it was no longer financially possible to operate its fire department. The City and the IAFF worked collaboratively to achieve the closure of the fire department, negotiate the effects on the employees and terminate the collective bargaining agreement. This presentation will describe the process that occurred and the unique and challenging legal and practical issues that arose and were resolved.
