Klein, Thorpe & Jenkins’ partner Mallory A. Milluzzi and associate Kaylee M. Hartman will discuss compliance with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) with the LaSalle County Township Officials Association on Thursday, October 8.
As public bodies, townships are subject to FOIA’s disclosure requirements, including responding to records requests within statutory deadlines and properly applying applicable exemptions. Mallory and Kaylee will walk through what township officials need to know to stay compliant and avoid common issues that can lead to complaints with the Public Access Counselor.
Mallory counsels school districts, municipalities and public bodies on the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Open Meetings Act (OMA), zoning, telecommunications, social media, PSEBA and general municipal and school law, and has litigated PSEBA, First Amendment, civil rights and ordinance violation claims. She frequently presents on FOIA, OMA, ethics, zoning and social media, and regularly trains newly elected officials.
Kaylee Hartman concentrates her practice in education, real estate and local government matters, drawing on her background in higher education administration, where she negotiated contracts, wrote department policy and advised students on university, municipal and state regulations.
The LaSalle County Township Officials Association is a local affiliate of Township Officials of Illinois (TOI), a statewide organization that promotes and supports strong township government through legislative advocacy and continuing education. Its members represent LaSalle County’s 37 townships, providing essential local services, maintaining unincorporated infrastructure and administering public assistance.
