Election Law

KTJ attorneys have provided assistance and consultation to our public sector clients relative to their obligations in complying with the Illinois Election Code and related statutory provisions. We have further assisted our local government clients with the necessary documents and procedures for the placement of referenda questions on the ballot, including revenue initiatives, initiatives related to changes in a form of government, advisory referenda and referenda to increase varying tax rates or authorize bonding authority. We have also assisted individuals with general consultation regarding the election process and requirements, including the preparation of their nominating petitions and related documents, as well as their campaign finance reporting and recording requirements.

KTJ has also worked on behalf of groups or individuals to review and ensure that the nominating petitions of candidates were in compliance with the requirements of Illinois law and has assisted citizen groups with the preparation and filing of petitions seeking to place various public questions or initiatives on the ballot. Our attorneys have appeared before numerous electoral boards in Illinois, as well as served on such electoral boards as court-appointed public members, and have advised such boards as legal counsel on behalf of our public sector clients.
